Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi is a diverse and lively city that continues to grow. The second largest city in East Africa, it is considered by many a hub for business and culture.
Within the city are several sprawling informal settlements, where residents live on public land and squeeze small shelters and storefronts into any available space. While healthcare isn’t far from these residents, it can be expensive or inadequate.
Alabaster is partnering with Joy House Primary School in the informal settlement of Mukuru. Since 2016, we have administered more than 500 typhoid vaccines to children ages 2 – 9 and conducted first aid and health trainings. Teachers report healthier students and higher enrollment since Alabaster began partnering here. Stay tuned for more programming in 2019.
